Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team avoided falling to 0-3 to start the season, tying with (RV) Southeastern (Fla.), 2-2 on Saturday evening. The Blue Raiders rallied back and matched the Fire's intensity with two goals in the second half after the hosts led 1-0 early.
In an evenly matched battle between the two sides, Lindsey Wilson managed to outshoot Southeastern 14-10, despite being narrowly bested in shots on goal, 4-3.
The Fire struck first in the sixth minute on a goal by Antonio Marra that was assisted by Lucas Nishioka. The shot from Marra soared into the top left corner off of a corner kick by Nishioka.
Then, well into the second half, Alexander Koziolek responded to put the Blue Raiders on the board in the 71st minute. An initial shot from Victor Cavalcante deflected off the post to the foot off Koziolek, who proceeded to poke home the rebound the knot the match at 1-1.
Southeastern answered quickly, however. Just two minutes after the Blue Raiders' goal, striker Edoardo Venutolo connected on his third goal of the season off of a cross from Marcello Cruz.
Lindsey Wilson was swift to retaliate in the 78th minute, drawing the match level again off the second goal of the season from Sadam Masereka.
From there, neither club could break the deadlock, and the score held it's 2-2 form through the final whistle.
The Blue Raiders return to action in Columbia for their home opener against No. 1 Keiser University (Fla.) on Saturday, September 10 at 7 p.m. CST.
