Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – At Biggers Sports Center, the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team smothered the Georgetown (Ky.) attack with 16 total blocks en route to a four-set victory.
The Blue Raiders' relentless presence at the net was their largest single-match output since rejecting Columbia (Mo.) for 17 blocks on October 18, 2019. It also helped Lindsey Wilson to its third consecutive win and 100th all-time conference win at home.
Lindamara Conceicao was everywhere the Tigers pounced, racking up a season-high 11 blocks while nearly achieving a double-double with nine kills. The junior finished the night with a .412 hitting percentage and only two errors on 17 attempts.
Elsewhere defensively, Alessia Bergesio notched a season-best and team-high 14 digs. She also added three of the Blue Raiders' 10 service aces.
Lindsey Wilson had entered Tuesday's contest winners of its last four meetings with Georgetown, including the most recent three by sweeps. However, the Tigers had a different plan this time around and took both of the first two sets down to the wire.
The first frame saw the Blue Raiders go ahead by as many as five points, but Georgetown stuck around with an 11-5 run at one point to make it a one-point game late. The Tigers used that momentum to earn themselves four set-point opportunities, though they fell victim to their own miscues and kills by Madison Bidwell and Elizabeth Moore to hand the set over to Lindsey Wilson, 29-27.
Georgetown got a hot start to the second set and built a 9-1 lead. Then, an attack error quickly turned the table to the Blue Raiders' favor and sent them off on a 10-0 run to take the lead. Elisa Burzio and Conceicao were instrumental for the hosts during that stretch as they each contributed a pair of kills. The two sides went on to trade points until the Tigers ultimately got the edge when it mattered to win the second frame, 25-23.
Lindsey Wilson found a clutch rally of points to seal the third set. With the score knotted at 15-15, a successful spike from Ola Wyrzykowska triggered a 10-1 swing to give the home team the lead in the match.
The action was closer down the stretch of the fourth set, as the Tigers managed to lock the score at 19-19 to force a Blue Raider timeout. Out of the break, the locals muscled six of the match's final seven points to secure the victory.
Despite being outkilled by Georgetown, Lindsey Wilson held down a solid .233 attack percentage to the Tigers' .116.
Luiza Goncalves fed most of the Blue Raiders' attack with 22 assists. She additionally tossed in six digs, five blocks, four service aces, and three kills for a well-rounded performance.
Lindsey Wilson hits the road for its next challenge. The Blue Raiders will head to St. Louis this weekend for the Missouri Baptist University Classic where they will see two teams nationally ranked inside the top 10.
