Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 5 ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against Cumberland (Tenn.) Wednesday at Walter S. Reuling Stadium/Ray Wells Field.
The Blue Raiders (9-2-2, 3-0-1 MSC) were outshot by the Phoenix (8-4-2, 2-1-1 MSC) 13-12 but held a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Felix Poschmann and Sadam Masereka each had three shots with one coming on goal.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in a defensive first half. Lindsey Wilson held a 6-1 edge in shots in the first half and a 2-0 advantage in shots on goal. Felix Poschmann had three shots with one on goal while Sadam Masereka also had one on goal. The Blue Raiders best chance came in the 26th minute. Monwabisi Mngqibisa had a good look on goal but his shot hit off the post.
The second half was similar to the first half as it became a physical defensive matchup. In the final 45 minutes there were 14 fouls, six yellow cards and one red card. Lindsey Wilson looked to have a goal in the 82nd minute. Alvaro Verwey headed a ball on goal that was punched away by the Phoenix keeper. After it took a deflection, a Cumberland defender cleared it on the line. In the 86th minute the Phoenix went down a player after a red card but the Blue Raiders were not able to capitalize.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Lawrenceville, Georgia to take on Georgia Gwinnett at Noon CT.
