Men's Basketball Falls Short in Highway 55 Battle

Box Score

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Lindsey Wilson men's basketball falls to conference rival Campbellsville University (Ky.), 71-66, in a physical highway 55 battle on Saturday at the Powell Athletic Center. The Blue Raiders drop to 8-15 overall and hold a conference record of 4-14.

The Tigers' strong start in the first half led them to victory despite second half efforts from LWC in a chippy low-scoring matchup. Jace Wallace for Campbellsville carried the offensive load for the Tigers to improve them to 10-14 on the season.

Jamyus Jones led all Blue Raiders in scoring with 12 points and shot 100% from the charity stripe. Jones' performance was followed by Payton Cundiff with eight points of his own along with Veron Kalonji ending with seven and four rebounds.

The opening minutes into this rival matchup was held at an even pace as both sides showed some aggressive play down low. Lindsey Wilson then established an offensive rhythm and jumped out to a 13-10 lead before the Tigers retaliated and regained momentum to give them the upper edge at the halfway mark of the first half.

Lindsey Wilson went on to struggle on offense from that point on which allowed Campbellsville to lead by as much as 11 in the half. The Blue Raiders shot a low 36% from the field in the first half as the Tigers managed to make a few runs before going into halftime with a 40-31 lead.

The intensity from LWC escalated really quickly coming into the second half as they cut the deficit to four within five minutes. The Tigers held onto the a small lead throughout the half until a Kalonji free throw tied things up at 57 with under seven minutes remaining.

Campbellsville turned things around and forced some LWC turnovers to retake the lead and extended it to seven points by the four minute mark. Lindsey Wilson ended the contest with a total of 19 turnovers as the Tigers were able to escape a late comeback attempt by the Blue Raiders to win, 71-66.

Lindsey Wilson continues its road stretch next week as they take on the University of Pikeville (Ky.) on Thursday, Feb. 9 in Pikeville, Ky at 6:30 p.m. CT.
