Track & Field Completes Opener at Mountaineer Open

Berea, Ky – Lindsey Wilson track and field teams competed in its first outdoor meet at the Mountaineer Open this weekend in Berea, Ky. The men's team dominated as they finished in first with 216 points as the women placed third with 119 total team points.

Starting in the field events, freshman Nikki Ravelli was able to secure the gold in her debut with the javelin throw after flinging the spear 37.94 meters. Malorie Carter also placed first in the hammer throw with a 41.73 meter toss and Emily Huber followed up in fifth, respectively.

More of the same on the men's side as Andrew Cronk took first in the javelin throw with a 40 meter throw. Both Austin Campbell and Brandon Fields made the podium for first and second place in the discus throw after tossing it 45.84 and 44 meters while LeAndre Bolen fell just shy of third in fourth, respectively. Junior leaper Justin Borden brought home the gold in both long and high jump as Jelle Golbach took the bronze in the high jump after clearing 1.90 meters along with Borden.

Campbell matched Borden's two gold medals with two of his own in the shot put and hammer throw. Bolen secured second in the shot put with a 12.98 meter toss as Fields finished silver in the hammer throw after throwing it over 43 meters. Marcus Abel finished out the field events with the pole vault placing third after clearing 2.32 meters.

On the track, Annabelle Walker came out on top in the 3000-meter steeplechase after running a 13:28. LWC ran the table in the women's 800-meter run as Meredith Johnson, Olivia Rudder, and Mason Wilson all made the podium. Alyssa Sharp took third in the 1500-meter race after running 5:17.89 seconds as Wilson, Laura Cuin-Casimiro, and Lotte Gertler followed up in fourth, fifth, and ninth place respectively. 

Justin Stearns tied for first in the men's 1500-meter race as Edwin Van Wyk ran a 20.89 to win the 200-meter dash and earn an NAIA A standard. In the 110–meter hurdles, Golbach and Elijah Palmer secured second and third place with times of 14.89 seconds and 14.90 seconds as John Rowe finished just behind in fourth. 

Abel and Ben Sonnenschein placed third and fourth in the 400-meter dash with times of 54.03 seconds and 54.97 seconds. 

The Blue Raiders finished out the day placing fourth in the mixed 4x400-meter relay.

Lindsey Wilson is back on the track next week on Saturday, April 1 when they take part in the Centre Invite in Danville, Ky.
