Women's Volleyball Closes out Running Eagle Classic With Split

MARIETTA, Ga. - The Lindsey Wilson volleyball team closed out the Running Eagle Classic splitting the final two matches on Saturday. The Blue Raiders (3-2) began their day with a sweep of Brenau (Ga.) before falling to Reinhardt (Ga.) in three sets.

Against Breanau the Blue Raiders hit .434 led by Savannah Pippen who had nine kills while Alexsandra Wyrzykowska had six. Wiktoria Stankiewicz had 10 digs, Luiza Goncalves and Monika Szwarc had 18 and 15 assists, respectively.

Elisa Burzio led Lindsey Wilson against Reinhardt with nine kills. Lindamara Conceicao recorded seven total blocks while Szwarc had 11 assists.

Lindsey Wilson vs. Brenau: 3-0 (25-12. 25-14, 25-17)

The Blue Raiders were dominant in the first set as they recorded 17 kills and hit .441. Lindsey Wilson opened the set scoring five of the first six points. Leading 6-3, the Blue Raiders went on a 7-2 run to increase their lead to 13-5. Lindsey Wilson closed out the first set scoring seven of the final nine points.

Lindsey Wilson continued its good hitting in the second set posting an attack percentage of .357. Leading 3-2, the Blue Raiders scored five of the next six points to increase their lead to 8-3. Brenau answered back with a 4-1 run to trim the LWC lead to 9-7. The Blue Raiders closed out the second set on an 11-3 run as they took a 2-0 lead in the match.

Brenau got out to a 7-4 lead in the third set before Lindsey Wilson scored eight of the next nine points to lead 12-8. Leading 20-13, Brenau cut the deficit to four before the Blue Raiders clinched the match scoring five of set's final six points.  

Lindsey Wilson vs. Reinhardt (16-25, 17-25, 18-25)

Lindsey Wilson led 3-2 in the first set before Reinhardt scored seven of the next nine points. Following an Eagle error that made it 9-6, Reinhardt went on a 4-1 run to increase its lead to 13-7. The Blue Raiders trailed 20-13 before scoring the next three points to make it 20-16. Reinhast closed out the set scoring the final five points.

The Blue Raiders scored the first three points of the second set before Reinhardt scored the next four. Lindsey Wilson then went on a 5-1 run to lead 8-5. The Blue Raiders led 10-8 before the Eagles scored the next five points. Lindsey Wilson answered going on a 5-1 run to jump back in front 15-14. Reinhardt responded scoring 11 of the set's final 13 points to go up 2-0 in the match.

 The beginning of the third set was back-and-forth as there were five ties in the first 10 points. Reinhardt then went on a 5-1 run to lead the set 10-6. LWC battled back and went on a 5-1 run to tie it at 11. The Eagles scored nine of the next ten points to jump out to a 20-12 lead. Lindsey Wilson cut the deficit to 22-17 after a 5-2 run. Reinhardt clinched the match on 3-1 run.

Lindsey Wilson is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Kentucky Wesleyan at 6 p.m. CT.
