Box Score OWENSBORO, Ky. – At Jones Gymnasium, a strong showing from the service line by the hosts helped propel Kentucky Wesleyan to a 3-0 decision over the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team.
Despite playing nearly even on the attack throughout the match, with the Panthers holding a slim 0.135 to 0.101 advantage, the Blue Raiders could not overcome the home side's persistent presence from the line that ultimately resulted in 14 service aces.
Lindsey Wilson was led by six kills from Madison Bidwell, plus an additional five kills apiece from Savanah Pippin and Aleksandra Wyrzykowska. The offensive trio was set up by Luiza Goncalves and Monika Szwarc with 11 and 10 assists, respectively, and Wiktoria Stankiewicz paced the defense with a season-high 15 digs.
Kentucky Wesleyan found the early edge on Tuesday evening, pushing ahead 5-3 before a small response by the Blue Raiders knotted the score at 6-6. The Panthers used back-to-back service aces and a successful attack to restore their lead to 9-6, then ballooned the advantage to as many as 10 points. Consecutive kills by Pippin sparked a 9-2 stretch late in the set for the visitors, but the Panthers held on to take the opener 25-20.
The middle set saw a similar cushion in favor of the home side, as the Panthers led 22-14 at one point behind nine kills and three aces. Lindsey Wilson did manage to tally seven of the set's last ten points, though the visitors eventually fell short, 25-21.
Another kill by Bidwell and back-to-back aces from Elizabeth Moore got the Blue Raiders on the right track to start the third frame. However, a 9-3 run by Kentucky Wesleyan swiftly turned the momentum back in its favor, and the Panthers carried on to the end from there to complete the sweep.
Lindsey Wilson travels to Bellevue, Nebraska next to take part in Bellevue University's Labor Day Weekend Tournament beginning on Friday morning at 11:30 a.m. CST.
