Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team opened Mid-South Conference play with a 3-0 shutout against Freed-Hardeman at the Josh Riley Soccer Complex.
The Blue Raiders (2-6, 1-0 MSC) outshot the Lions (2-8, 0-2) 22-7 and held a 10-4 edge in shots on goal. Ashiat Naluggwa scored two goals in the victory while Alina Siegel added another. Siegel also added an assist while Gabby Duerson recorded four saves.
Lindsey Wilson struck first in the sixth minute. Siegel played a ball to Silvia Marchesi who then found Naluggwa who had two defenders around her and was able to fire it past the Lion goalkeeper. Following a handball in the box by Freed-Hardeman, Siegel converted on the penalty kick to increase the Blue Raiders lead to 2-0. The Blue Raiders recorded 11 shots in the first half while firing six shots on goal. Lindsey Wilson limited the Lions to just four total shots in the first 45 minutes.
Neither team was able to do much for most of the second half as the score remained 2-0 until the 84th minute. Lindsey Wilson recorded another 11 shots in the second half and put four on goal. The Lions had just three shots in the second half while putting one on goal. The Blue Raiders added to their lead in the 84th minute with Naluggwa picking up her second goal. Naluggwa got received the ball past midfield and took it the rest of the way putting it past the Lion keeper.
The Blue Raiders return home on Saturday when they face Union at 7 p.m. CT at Walter S. Reuling Stadium/Ray Wells Field.
