Women's Soccer Program Achieves 500th Win Against Union

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. - In a dominant display of the beautiful game, Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team achieved their 500th win with a 2-0 score against Union on Saturday night. This result improves the season record to 3-6.

The game's direction was set early on with the Blue Raiders having 3 shots in less than 6 minutes. The first goal was not far away, as it came in their next attempt in the 9th minute. Ashiat Naluggwa picked up the ball a few yards after the halfway line, dribbled 3 Union players and placed a great ball for Emilie Bernard, who took a touch and placed it bottom left corner out of the keeper's reach.

Lindsey Wilson kept attacking the rest of the first half, but were not able to get another goal. Teams went into halftime with 12 shots in favor of the Blue Raiders against 2 from the Bulldogs.

The second half followed what had been shown in the first 45 minutes of play. Naluggwa kept insisting and was determined to get a goal, but her shots went wide a few times. She had to wait until the 67th minute, where Bernard was able to find a gap, placing a great pass which Naluggwa finished dribbling past Union's keeper Chiara Isanto and shooting at an empty goal.

Goalkeeper Gabby Duerson collected her third clean sheet of the season in a calm game for her thanks to a great display from the defense. She recorded 3 saves in the match and was not forced to do any spectacular ones tonight.

The contest ended with 22(5) shots for LWC and 4(3) for UC. No player was booked so no yellow cards were given.

Looking ahead, the Blue Raiders are now set to continue their season with their second conference game against Bethel on Wednesday scheduled for 4 p.m. CT at Walter S. Reuling Stadium-Ray Wells Field.
