Box Score FRANKFORT, Ky. – At Bell Gymnasium, an all-around effort by the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team in its road trip finale helped guide the Blue Raiders to their fourth sweep of the season over Kentucky State University.
The visitors turned in a season-high 14 service aces, including eight from Laura Milori, as well as the year's second-best attack percentage to upend the Thorobreds in straight sets.
Aleksandra Wyrzykowska and Lindamara Conceicao paced a balanced Blue Raider attack with eight and seven kills, respectively, and Luiza Goncalves dished out a team-high 20 assists.
Lindsey Wilson opened the first two sets of the match with identical 5-0 runs. In the first go-around, the advantage ballooned to as many as 11 points, with consecutive aces by Milori pushing the Blue Raiders ahead 20-9. A subsequent 6-1 rally ultimately won the frame for Lindsey Wilson to put them in the driver's seat.
Kentucky State put forth a better response to the Blue Raiders' early run in the middle state, but Lindsey Wilson stayed composed to go in front 14-6. Then, following a Thorobred timeout, back-to-back Kentucky State miscues and successful attacks from Wyrzykowska and Moore elevated the Raiders' advantage to 18-8. From there, a late push by the hosts only delayed a second-set win for Lindsey Wilson.
In the deciding set, the Thorobreds kept the score tight in the initial stages. The Blue Raiders, however, stayed on track and built a 9-3 cushion behind a pair of aces from Rachele Tessari and kills from Conceicao and Elisa Burzio. Another Kentucky State timeout allowed the home side to make up some ground, but it was not enough in the long run as Lindsey Wilson outscored its opposition 10-5 down the stretch to seal the win.
The Blue Raiders make their return to Biggers Sports Center on Tuesday, September 12 to host Boyce College at 7 p.m. CST.
