CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson volleyball team defeated Campbellsville (Ky.) 3-2 Thursday at Gosser Gymnasium to complete the regular season sweep of the Battle of Highway 55.
With the victory, the Blue Raiders remain perfect in Mid-South Conference play improving to 8-0 and 21-8 overall. Lindsey Wilson recorded 65 kills in the match falling just one shy of the season high.
Elisa Burzio tallied a career-high 23 kills in the match and also tallied 12 digs for her sixth double-double of the season.
Bella Christófaro recorded a career-high 11 kills while
Ola Wyrzykowska was in double figures with 10 and had 13 digs.
Luiza Gonçalves led the Blue Raiders with 27 assists while
Monika Szwarc tallied 26.
The Blue Raiders got out to a 7-4 lead in the first set before Campbellsville scored seven of the next eight points to lead 11-8. Lindsey Wilson answered right back putting together a 4-0 run to regain the lead at 12-11. Down 17-16, the Blue Raiders took a 20-17 lead scoring the next four points. The Tigers rallied scoring eight of the set's final 11 points to come away with the 25-23 victory.
Campbellsville got out to a fast start in the second set scoring six of the first eight points. The Blue Raiders responded scoring six of the next seven points to lead 8-7. The Tigers led 15-12 before Lindsey Wilson got the next four points to lead 16-15. The back-and-forth play continued as Campbellsville took an 18-16 lead and then the Blue Raiders led 19-18. Trailing 22-21, Lindsey scored four of the final five points to tie the match.
Lindsey Wilson led 8-5 in set three before Campbellsville went on a 6-1 run to take an 11-9 lead. The Blue Raiders trailed 15-12 before scoring six of the next eight points as they held an 18-17 advantage. Campbellsville closed the third set scoring five of the final seven points winning the set 25-21.
The fourth set was back-and-forth at the start as neither team led by more than two for the first 18 points with Campbellsville leading 10-8. Lindsey Wilson put together a 6-0 run taking a 14-10 lead. Following a Tiger point, the Blue Raiders scored the next four taking control of the set at 18-11. Lindsey Wilson forced the fifth set coming away with the 25-19 win.
In the fifth set, the Blue Raiders tallied 11 kills on 19 attacks to hit .579. Campbellsville began the set scoring four of the first five points. Lindsey Wilson tied the set at four with a 3-0 run. After a Blue Raider service error gave the Tigers a 5-4 lead, the Blue Raiders scored the next four points. The Blue Raiders closed out the decisive set scoring three of the final four points for the 15-11 victory.
