Women’s Soccer Comes Back to Defeat Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Ky.-- In a thrilling contest, the Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Georgetown (Ky.) Friday at Toyota Stadium. The match saw an energetic start from Georgetown, but Lindsey Wilson's resilience ultimately turned the game around.

With the victory, the Blue Raiders have won their last three matches to improve to 3-5-2 overall and are now 2-1 in Mid-South Conference play.

Georgetown struck first, taking the lead in the 12th minute. Laura Beumala capitalized on an opportunity, finding the back of the net with an assist from Bekah Clark, putting Georgetown ahead early.

However, the Blue Raiders responded effectively. Just before halftime, in the 45th minute, Alina Siegel scored the equalizer, which was assisted by Liza von Blumenthal and Sharon Nadunga. The goal shifted momentum, and Lindsey Wilson entered the halftime break with renewed energy.

The second half saw Lindsey Wilson continue to press, and their efforts paid off in the 59th minute when Liza von Blumenthal scored, giving her team a 2-1 lead. This goal further solidified Lindsey Wilson's control of the match.

The Tigers then struggled to maintain their early intensity and were unable to find a second goal. Lindsey Wilson dominated the offensive play, recording 10 shots on goal compared to Georgetown's three. Notably, Ashiat Naluggwa and Silvia Marchesi each contributed with four shots each.

Lindsey Wilson will look to continue their MSC winning streak as they play at home at 5 PM CST on October 23rd against #1 University of the Cumberlands (Ky.).
