LEBANON, Tenn. - Lindsey Wilson men's soccer claimed a decisive 4-1 victory over No. 12-ranked Cumberland (Tenn.) on Tuesday afternoon at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field, clinching a share of the Mid-South Conference title in the process. The Blue Raiders, now 7-5-2 overall and 4-1 in MSC play, can secure the title outright with a tie or win over Campbellsville (Ky.) on Monday.
The Blue Raiders capitalized on a powerful first half, with forward Dominic Ayella opening the scoring in the 19th minute on an assist from Michael Rempel. Just three minutes later, Ayella found the net again, assisted by Jaland Larmond and Felix Poschmann, marking his 11th goal of the season. Lindsey Wilson quickly extended their lead as Rempel netted his fourth goal of the season in the 32nd minute off a setup by Sebastian Tregarthen. Moments later, Larmond added a fourth goal for the Blue Raiders, assisted by Ayella.
Cumberland's Philipp Schmidtke answered in the 66th minute with a goal assisted by Jostin Angel, but it wasn't enough to turn the tide for the Phoenix. Lindsey Wilson's defense held steady, limiting Cumberland to five shots on goal from 13 attempts, while the Blue Raiders produced 18 shots, including seven on target.
The match was physical, with a combined 23 fouls and multiple cautions for both sides. Despite the intensity, Lindsey Wilson maintained control and secured their fourth conference win, setting up a title-deciding match on Monday.
Lindsey Wilson returns to the pitch at 7 p.m. C.T. on November 4 at Walter S. Reuling with a chance to capture the Mid-South Conference title outright as they face Campbellsville in their regular-season finale.
