GEORGETOWN, Ky. – Lindsey Wilson and Georgetown added another chapter to their historic volleyball rivalry on Tuesday evening. The (RV) Blue Raiders safely kept the series tilted in their favor, earning a three-set sweep over the Tigers to improve to 7-0 in the Mid-South Conference, the best start since 2018.
Ola Wyrzykowska led Lindsey Wilson with 10 kills on 18 attempts as the Blue Raider offense recorded a season-low six attack errors to finish with a .333 hitting percentage. Despite being outkilled by the hosts, Lindsey Wilson's cleanliness proved to be the difference compared to the Tigers' 25 attack errors.
Luiza Gonçalves continued to look sharp from the service line. Her seven aces on Tuesday pushed her over 100 for her Lindsey Wilson career and gives her 27 in the last five matches, alone. The junior also chipped in 19 assists, five digs, and two kills.
The Blue Raiders got out to a strong start in the first set opening up a 6-0 lead. Gonçalves aced two balls in the stretch. Georgetown mounted a comeback to knot the score at 9-9 but a sequence involving three attack errors and two aces from
Elisa Burzio restored Lindsey Wilson's six-point lead. Even still, the Tigers pushed back to cut the deficit to one, down 18-19. A kill off the hand of
Ola Wyrzykowska sparked a set-winning 6-1 run for the Blue Raiders to give them a one-set lead in the match.
Lindsey Wilson hit .396 over the second and third sets. In the second, the Blue Raiders led 6-4 as the Tigers sided out well. The visitors slowly built a substantial run, starting with a Georgetown service error to begin a five-point rally. After the Tigers were forced to burn both of their timeouts, Lindsey Wilson continued to click and eventually sized its lead up to double-digits. Kills from
Lara Danesi and
Savanah Pippin were more than enough to win set two, 25-12.
Georgetown grabbed its only leads of the match early in the third set. Trailing 3-4, consecutive kills by Pippin and Burzio triggered a six-point swing for Lindsey Wilson to give it a lead it did not surrender for the remainder of the night. Late kills from Pippin, Burzio, and Bella Christófaro helped seal the final set, 25-17.
Lindsey Wilson travels to St. Louis, Missouri this weekend for its final slate of non-conference matches at the Missouri Baptist Classic.
