COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team took down Virginia-Lynchburg 99-54 on the first day of the Brady Button Memorial classic. The win improves the Blue Raiders to 3-0 for the first time in five years.
The Blue Raiders shot an outstanding 58.1 percent from the field and 60 percent from three as they held the Dragon's to 29.7 percent from the floor.
Daivel Jackson led the team with 15 points while shooting an efficient 6-for-8. Julian Cunnigham poured in another 14 points and dished out seven assists, and two other Blue Raiders finished in double-digit scoring, including
Kenyata Carbon adding 11 points, eight rebounds, and five steals and
Olson Nicholson adding 10 points.
Virginia-Lynchburg kept it close early and stayed within one possession after a 3-pointer to make the score 8-5. A subsequent Carbon three sparked a 13-0 run for the Blue Raiders as they pulled away and never looked back. Lindsey Wilson added another significant stretch later in the half, outscoring the Dragons 18-0 over a four minute span to help send the Blue Raiders into the locker room 57-25.
The Blue Raiders led by as many as 46 points in the second half, receiving late contributions from
Thon Bill Pach, who scored eight points in six minutes and hit all four of his shots, and
Jermayn Baxter who had seven points and added two steals.
As a team Lindsey Wilson out-rebounded Virginia Lynchburg 47-33.
The Blue Raiders will be back in action at 4 p.m CST on Saturday as they take on Kentucky Christian at Bigger Sports Center.
