Campbellsville Edges Out Women’s Soccer For Senior Night

COLUMBIA, Ky.-- In a hard-fought match, No. 9 Campbellsville defeated the Lindsey Wilson women's soccer 3-2. The Tigers jumped out to an early lead and held on for the win despite a late push by the Blue Raiders.

Campbellsville came out strong from the opening whistle, controlling much of the early play. The Tigers took the lead in the 14th minute when Marta Prieto scored off an assist from Lina Berrah. Just nine minutes later, Merel Houweling doubled the Tigers' advantage, finding the back of the net in the 23rd minute to make it 2-0 going into halftime.

Lindsey Wilson came out of halftime with renewed energy and quickly pulled a goal back. Ashiat Naluggwa capitalized on a quick counterattack, scoring in the 48th minute to cut Campbellsville's lead to 2-1. 

However, just minutes later, Prieto was on target again, scoring her second goal of the match in the 52nd minute to restore Campbellsville's two-goal advantage at 3-1.

As the game progressed, Lindsey Wilson continued to push forward, trying to create several opportunities to get back into the game. In the 87th minute, Silvia Marchesi delivered a stunning free-kick that found the back of the net, pulling the Blue Raiders to within one goal at 3-2. Even still, the Tigers fended off any additional late minute chances and secured the win.

Campbellsville outshot Lindsey Wilson 17-11.

The Blue Raiders, who close their regular season at 3-7-3, turn their attention to the Mid-South Conference tournament, which is slated to begin later this week.
