Men’s Wrestling Goes 3-1 at Rocky Top Duals

GATLINBURG, Tenn. – The Lindsey Wilson men's wrestling team went 3-1 at the Rocky Top Duals Saturday  at Rocky Top Sports World.
The Blue Raiders defeated Liberty (Va.), Truett McConnell (Ga.) and Rio Grande (Ohio) and fell to No. 1 Life (Ga.).

Lindsey Wilson 29 – Liberty 14

The Blue Raiders got off to a fast start winning the first four weight classes to take a 17-0 lead. Clarence Lee-Green IV (No. 14 in the NAIA at 125 pounds) opened the dual with a 21-5 tech fall over Aiden Scheeringa. Alex Tabor defeated Blaise Verdino 10-7 at 133 pounds while Drake Montelongo pinned Rcey Ortega in the first period at 141 pounds. Adrian Ayala (No. 13 at 149 pounds) made it 17-0 with an 8-5 decision.

Liberty took the next two weight classes by major decision and pin to cut the Blue Raider lead to 17-10. Lindsey Wilson took control of the match with wins at 174, 184 and 197 pounds. Jostyn Zayas and Cale Johnson each earned 7-3 decisions at 174 and 184 pounds, respectively. Hunter Lehrke made it 29-10 with a second-period pin over Gabriel Hayes. Liberty closed out the dual with an 11-0 major decision at heavyweight.

Lindsey Wilson 34 – Truett McConnell 22

Lindsey Wilson won the first four matches all via pin to jump out to a 24-0 lead. Lee-Green pinned Tyler Ramos in the second period at 125 pounds while Tabor pinned Isaa Hall in the first period. Montelongo pinned Johnathan Pope in 1:24 while Ayala needed just 1:28 to pin Elijah Mullins at 149 pounds. Nicholas Hejke gave the Blue Raiders a 28-0 edge with a 9-0 major decision at 157 pounds.

The Bears picked up their first win at 165 pounds on a 13-2 major decision to make it 28-4. Zayas needed just 32 seconds to pin Mason Johnson at 174 pounds to make it 34-4. Truett McConnell closed out the dual with pins in all three of the final weight classes.

Lindsey Wilson 7 – Life 39

The Blue Raiders only picked up wins at 125 and 149 pounds. Lee-Green earned a hard-fought 13-10 decision over Adrian Morales. Ayala earned a 16-8 major decision over Colson Elliott. Life earned four tech falls, two pins, one major decision and one decision in the dual.

Lindsey Wilson 45 – Rio Grande 8

Lindsey Wilson jumped out to a 30-0 lead after winning the first five weight classes with three forfeits and two pins. After back-to-back forfeits at 125 and 133 pounds, Montelongo pinned Conner Blessing in the first period. After a forfeit at 149, Hejke pinned Kaylin Foust in 1:28 at 157 pounds. Rio won their only two matches at 165 and 174 pounds. The Blue Raiders closed out the match with two pins at 184 and 197 pounds and a 9-4 decision at 285.

Lindsey Wilson is back in action on January 3 for the Hawk Duals in Montgomery, Alabama.
