Perovic Captures Conference Title; Six Other Blue Raider Grapplers Earn All-Conference Honors

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Niko Perovic won a conference title as six other Blue Raider wrestlers earned All-Conference honors at the Mid-South Conference Championship Friday at Ephram White Gym.

The Blue Raiders finished fourth in the sixth team field with 115 points. Lindsey Wilson sent six wrestlers to finals posting five runner-up finishes and one champion.

Perovic earned a bye into the semifinals of the 197-pound bracket. In his first match, Perovic picked up a 15-0 tech fall over Midway's David Emfinger in the semifinals. He won the conference title at 197 pounds with a 4-3 decision over Cumberland's Tyler Rowland.

Diamond began his tournament with a pin over Rio Grande's (Ohio) Collin Greenwood just 40 seconds into the first period. He advanced to the finals with a 4-2 decision over Cumberland's (Tenn.) Chris Busutil. In the championship match, Diamond fell to Campbellsville's Izaeh Beavers 7-6.

Becker earned a bye at 133 pounds and defeated Midway's Tyrique Sims on an 18-4 major decision. He lost to Cumberland's Sammy Shires 10-7 in the championship match.

After earning a bye in the 141-pound bracket, Ayala picked up a second-period pin of Midway's (Ky.) Anthony Caruso in the quarterfinals. Ayala then defeated Cumberland's Jared Dinh 4-2 to advance to the finals. In the finals, Ayala was defeated by Campbellsville's Nicholas Yancey 11-4.

Cannan opened his tournament with a SV-1 4-1 victory over Cumberland's Anthony Pyron in the quarterfinals. He advanced to the finals with a 3-2 decision over Campbellsville's (Ky.)  Gabe Martinez. In the 174-pound final, Cannan was defeated by Cumberland's Cole Smith 14-4.

Figueroa earned an 11-1 major decision over Midway's Byron Pierce and defeated Cumberlands' Wylie Dunn 6-0 in the semifinals. He dropped a 12-8 decision to Campbellsville's Gabe Craig in the finals.

Laxton finished third in the 133-pound bracket. He opened his tournament with a bye and then was pinned by Shires in the quarterfinals. Laxton earned all-conference honors picking up a 27-10 tech fall over Midway's Tyrique Simms.

 Clarence Lee-Green IV finished fourth at 125 pounds. Lee-Green started his tournament with a 3-0 loss in the quarterfinals before rattling off back-to-back wins in the consolation bracket. He just missed All-Conference falling to Cumberlands Adonis Boyd in the third-place match.

William George finished fourth at 157 pounds going 2-2. After losing in the quarterfinals, George won two consolation matches to reach the third-place match. He fell to Cumberland's Eli Clemmons.

Drake Montelongo earned one win at 149 pounds on Friday.

The Blue Raiders return to the mat on Feb. 29 for the first day of the NAIA Men's Wrestling National Championship in Park City, Kansas.
