COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team will close its season-opening 12-game road trip on Tuesday in Dayton, Tennessee against (RV) Bryan College.
Since 2014, the Blue Raiders and the Lions have met 13 times and in those meetings Bryan has come out on top nine times, including the last four on its home field. In 2023, the Lions swept Lindsey Wilson in their two regular season matchups, outscoring the Blue Raiders 29-13.
The Bryan offense has struck for 10 or more hits on seven different occasions so far this season but were limited to a season-low four hits in a 10-2 loss at Bluefield (Va.) on February 16, its more recent outing.
Junior infielder Bryson Lofton paces Bryan with 21 hits and a .447 batting average. He also leads the Lions with 10 extra-base hits and 13 walks.
On the mound, seniors Cameron Harvey and Jacob Almon hold earned-run averages of 2.84 and 2.08, respectively, and rank second and third in the Lions' rotation for strikeouts behind David Walker's 21.
As for Lindsey Wilson, the Blue Raiders are eyeing a win streak after defeating Talladega (Ala.) 5-2 on Friday.
Sam Gage,
Chance Stayton, and
Matthew Schultz each contributed three hits in the series against the Tornadoes this past weekend. Gage and Stayton were also responsible for three runs batted-in, apiece.
That trio for the Blue Raiders sits atop the team stat sheet for total hits, while
Jonathan Barham stands alone with a team-best two home runs.
On the bump,
Mason Malone is off to a 2-1 start in three appearances. He, along with
Glenn Simes,
Cohen Achen, and
Jonathan Phipps have been the go-to starters for Lindsey Wilson.
