LAURINBURG, N.C. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team wrapped up its season opening weekend on Sunday at St. Andrews (N.C.), dropping back-to-back contests to the Knights to split the four-game series.
Chance Stayton and
Andres Duran each produced two hits at the plate for the Blue Raiders on the day, with Stayton bringing in a pair of runs to pace the visitor's offense.
Game One: Lindsey Wilson 4, St. Andrews 11
At Clark Field, the hosts plated two runs in their first plate appearance then went on to add a crooked seven-piece in the bottom of the fourth inning to open up a sizable 9-0 lead.
The Knights' advantage grew to double-digits in the fifth, but the Blue Raiders did manage to trim into the deficit in the sixth.
Jaden Cockerel got Lindsey Wilson on the board with a single to center field to score Duran. Two batters later,
Sam Gage grounded a ball in the infield to bring home
Jonathan Barham.
Lindsey Wilson's last two runs of the day came off the bat of Stayton who dropped a single into right field to plate Cockerel and
Matthew Schultz.
Mason Malone started on the hill for the Blue Raiders and went 3.2 innings and recorded three strikeouts but was ultimately credited with the loss.
Game Two: Lindsey Wilson 0, St. Andrews 3
The Knights, again, struck in the fourth inning, bringing across all three of their runs on one hit.
Lindsey Wilson was limited to just two hits in the game and faced their best chance to score in the final frame when the go-ahead run was brought to the plate.
Nevertheless, St. Andrews held its ground to secure the Sunday sweep.
Glenn Simes fired 5.1 innings of work on the bump for the Blue Raiders, finishing with two strikeouts and zero earned runs allowed.
The Blue Raiders return to the road next weekend when they travel to Faulkner (Ala.) for a three-game, two-day series.
