MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team opened a four-game series against Faulkner dropping a pair of games Friday at Harrison Field.
The Blue Raiders (2-4) fell in game one 8-1 and dropped game two 6-2.
Five Blue Raiders recorded a hit in the first game while
Jaden Cockerel drove in the only run in the game.
Cohen Achen pitched 4-2/3 innings allowing six unearned runs while giving up six hits and striking out four.
Matthew Schultz recorded two hits in the second game and
Nazhir Bergen drove in the two Blue Raider runs.
Jonathan Phipps pitched four innings allowing six runs on six hits while striking out four.
Mitchell Buchanan pitched two innings of relief allowing three hits and two strikeouts.
Game 1: Faulkner 8 Lindsey Wilson 1
Faulkner struck first in the home half of the first scoring three runs. After a leadoff walk, the Eagles got a runner on third after a Blue Raider error. Faulkner scored first on the second Lindsey Wilson error to go up 1-0. The Eagles added two more runs in the inning to lead 3-0.
Lindsey Wilson got on the board in the top of the second. Following a leadoff groundout,
Koby Wall singled into left field.
Jonathan Barham then doubled down the left-field line advancing Wall to third.
Jaden Cockerel drove in the first run to trim the Blue Raider deficit to 3-1. Achen retired the side in order in the bottom of the second recording two strikeouts.
The Eagles added to their lead in the fifth inning. Faulkner pushed across three runs on two hits and two Lindsey Wilson errors to take a 6-1 lead.
The Blue Raiders had their best opportunity since the second inning to get the offense going in the top of the sixth but were unable to capitalize. Bergen and
Chance Stayton began the inning with back-to-back singles. Following a flyout, an error on the Eagles catcher allowed the runners to advance to second and third. Faulkner retired the next two batters ending the Lindsey Wilson threat.
Faulkner added two more runs in the home half of the sixth to increase their lead to 8-1.
Game 2: Faulkner 6 Lindsey Wilson 2
After a scoreless first inning, Faulkner struck first scoring three runs in the second. The Eagles increased their lead to 4-0 in the third on a solo home run. Faulkner scored a run in the fourth and fifth inning to take a 6-0 lead.
The Blue Raiders were held hit-less through 4-2/3 innings before Schultz recorded a two-out single. Lindsey Wilson was finally able to get on the board in the sixth inning.
Gabe Board reached on a one-out infield single and advanced to third after
Sam Gage reached on an error. Bergen drove in both runners with a 2-RBI single.
Lindsey Wilson closes out the series with Faulkner on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at Noon CT at Harrison Field.
