COLUMBIA, Ky. – A late ninth-inning rally by the Blue Raider baseball team fell short on Wednesday afternoon against Bryan (Tenn.). Trailing by eight, Lindsey Wilson quickly threatened the visiting Lions but ultimately fell short 10-6.
Chance Stayton and
Nazhir Bergen each contributed multi-hit games for the hosts with two apiece, and four different Blue Raiders drove in runs.
On the bump,
Jacob Jackson (L, 0-1) made his first start of the season and went four complete innings while striking out six and allowing three earned runs on five hits.
After back-to-back scoreless innings to open the game, both sides tacked on a run in the third inning. A sacrifice flyout by Stayton to plate
Gabe Board provided the Blue Raiders with their first run.
The Lions regained the lead in the fourth frame and proceeded to add to it with nine runs scattered over four innings.
A solo home run from
Jonathan Barham in the bottom leg of the eighth inning, his fourth of the season, snapped a four-inning scoreless drought for Lindsey Wilson.
Then, in the ninth inning, the Blue Raiders capitalized on a series of infield miscues by the Lions to generate some momentum. Consecutive errors led to three runs for Lindsey Wilson, and an RBI-single by
Sam Gage continued the late push but it went no further.
The Blue Raiders return to Egnew Park at 1 p.m. CST on Saturday to host Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) for their Mid-South Conference opener.
