COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson baseball team dropped their final two matches of the weekend to Freed-Hardeman on Sunday afternoon.
Game 1 | Lindsey Wilson 4, Freed-Hardeman 6
The first matchup of the day had a slow start, with scoring not beginning until the sixth inning for both teams. Sam Gage and Jackson Steele both had two hits during the game and three different Blue Raiders brought in runs.
Glenn Simes made his fourth start of the season at pitcher, throwing for a total of six innings, and had four earned runs on eight hits.
The Blue Raiders had the bases loaded when Steele hit a single through the left side, bringing Matthew Schultz home for their first run of the game.
Lindsey Wilson took the lead in the sixth inning after Gabe Board hit a sacrifice fly out to center field, allowing both Gage and Jaydon Keith to add two more runs to the board.
Freed-Hardeman claimed the lead back in the top of the seventh, and the Blue Raiders responded in the bottom of the inning when Andres Duran walked with bases loaded, bringing Schultz home to tie the game at four.
The Blue Raiders ultimately fell in the ninth inning when the Lions scored two more runs to bring their total to six.
Game 2 | Lindsey Wilson 6, Freed-Hardeman 8
A late seventh inning rally by the Blue Raiders fell short in the final matchup of the weekend, with the Blue Raiders bringing four of their six runs in the bottom of the final inning.
Mason Malone was the starting pitcher for this game, making this his sixth start of the season. Malone pitched for a total of 4.1 innings and had six earned runs on 11 hits.
Freed-Hardeman started the scoring early, bringing in three runs in the first two innings. The Blue Raiders got their first run of the game in the third inning when Schultz singled to center field, allowing Koby Wall to score.
The Blue Raiders found themselves down by five runs going into their at bat in the fifth inning. Wall reduced the deficit to four runs, hitting his first home run of the season.
After the Lions added two more runs in the seventh inning, Wall started the Blue Raider's late rally off with his second home run of the day, bringing the score to 8-3.
Caden Davis added the next run for the Blue Raiders, scoring off a double by Schultz. Schultz then scored off a triple by Duran and Duran rounded off the rally with the final run of the game, scoring off a single to left field by Jonathan Barham.
The Blue Raiders' next game will be on the road against University of Tennessee Southern on Wednesday, March 20 in Pulaski, Tenn.
