WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team fell to Cumberlands 6-1 Friday at Doyle Buhl Stadium.
Cohen Achen pitched six innings allowing two runs on six hits while walking a pair and striking out 12. With his 12 strikeouts, Achen surpassed Scott Sebald as the program's all-time leader in strikeouts with 313.
Jonathan Barham recorded the lone hit of the day for the Blue Raiders (13-17, 1-6 Mid-South Conference) with a solo home run in the fifth inning.
Achen recorded eight strikeouts through the first three innings. He had two in the first, struck out the side in the second and all three of the outs in the third were strikeouts. Cumberlands struck first in the home half of the third. Following a strikeout, a double and a hit batter put runners on first and second. The Patriots got on the board with an RBI-single through the right side.
The Blue Raiders got their first hit of the game in the fifth inning when Barham hit a solo home run to center field to tie the game 1-1. In the bottom of the seventh, the Patriots took a 2-1 lead on a two-out RBI-single. With his third strike out of the inning, Achen set the program record in career strikeouts with his 12th of the game.
Cumberlands increased its lead to 6-1 with a pair of two-run home runs in the bottom of the eighth.
The two teams close out the series with a doubleheader beginning at Noon CT at Doyle Buhl Stadium.
