Baseball Drops Doubleheader Against No. 4 Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball dropped a Mid-South Conference doubleheader Saturday at Doyle Buhl Stadium against No. 4 Cumberlands.

The Blue Raiders (13-19, 1-8 MSC) fell in game one 6-3 and dropped game two 4-1.

In game one, Andres Duran recorded two hits while four other Blue Raiders each recorded a hit. Gabe Board drove in a pair of runs and hit a home run while Sam Gage recorded an RBI. Jonathan Phipps pitched five innings allowing six runs on seven hits with four walks and six strikeouts. Gannon Herring pitched an inning of relief not allowing a hit.

Gage went 3-for-4 in game two while Jackson Steele hit a home run. Mitchell Buchanan pitched 5-2/3 innings allowing four runs on six hits with six walks and three strikeouts. Reed Marcum pitched 2-1/3 innings of relief allowing one hit while striking out three.

Game 1: Cumberlands 6 Lindsey Wilson 3
Cumberlands had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the second before a double play on a flyout ended the Patriots threat. Bryce Sidler led off the third with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. After a popout, Gage singled through the right side scoring Sidler give Lindsey Wilson a 1-0 lead. Board then hit a home run to left center field to increase the Blue Raider lead to 3-0.

Cumberlands got on the board in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out RBI-single to left. The Patriots trimmed the Blue Raider lead to 3-2 with an RBI-double in the fifth inning. Back-to-back doubles to begin the bottom of the sixth tied the game at 3-3. The Patriots added three more runs in the inning to take a 6-3 advantage.

Game 2: Cumberlands 4 Lindsey Wilson 1
Cumberlands scored one in the first and added three in the fourth on a three-run home run to lead 4-0. Gage led off the top of the fifth reaching on a throwing error by the Patriots catcher on a dropped third strike. Schultz singled to advance Gage to second. Following back-to-back strikeouts, a wild pitch advanced runners to third. Caden Davis then drew a walk to load the bases for the Blue Raiders. A strikeout ended the Lindsey Wilson threat stranding three runners. Lindsey Wilson's lone run came in the ninth on a solo home run by Steele.

The Blue Raiders are back in action at 2 p.m. CT Tuesday hosting Midway at Egnew Park.
