LEBANON, Tenn. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team began its final Mid-South Conference series of the season with a 6-3 victory over Cumberland (Tenn.) Friday at Woody Hunt Stadium.
With the victory, the Blue Raiders improve to 17-23 overall and are now 4-12 in the MSC. Four Blue Raiders recorded a pair of hits and drove in a run.
Chance Stayton and
Sam Gage each hit a solo home run.
Cohen Achen earned the win pitching five innings allowing just one earned run, five hits, one walk and five strikeouts.
Glenn Simes earned the save pitching four innings allowing just one hit and striking out four.
Gage led off the second inning with a single into center field and advanced to second on a passed ball.
Andres Duran drew a one-out walk and then a wild pitch allowed runners to advance to second and third. Following a walk to load the bases,
Koby Wall singled to right to give Lindsey Wilson a 1-0 lead. Duran scored on a wild pitch increasing the Blue Raider lead to 2-0.
Stayton led off the top of the third with a solo home run to left. The Phoenix led off the home half of the third reaching on a Lindsey Wilson error. Following back-to-back outs, Cumberland got on the board with a two-run home run trimming the Blue Raider lead to 3-2. The Phoenix tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth.
Gage walked to leadoff the sixth and advanced to second on a
Jackson Steele single. Duran singled to load the bases and later in the inning
Matthew Schultz drove in the go-ahead run to lead 4-3. The Blue Raiders increased their lead in the inning to 5-3 scoring on a wild pitch. Gage increased the Lindsey Wilson advantage to 6-3 in the ninth with a solo home run.
The Blue Raiders close out the series with the Phoenix with a doubleheader beginning at Noon CT Saturday at Woody Hunt Stadium.
