COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team fell in the series finale 2-0 against Bethel (Tenn.) Sunday at Egnew Park.
Jonathan Barham led the Blue Raiders (13-22, 1-11 MSC) with a pair of hits.
Gabe Board,
Chance Stayton,
Jackson Steele and
Bryce Sidler each recorded a hit.
Jonathan Phipps got the start pitching 6-1/3 innings allowing two runs on seven hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.
Mason Malone threw 2-2/3 innings of relief allowing just one hit with one walk and two strikeouts.
Following a Bethel (26-8, 7-5 MSC) strikeout in the top of the third, the Wildcats had runners on the corners after a single and an error. Bethel then stole second putting runners on second and third. The Wildcats then hit a flyout to centerfield to
Nazhir Bergen. With the runner tagging up from third Bergin fired it home to Barham who applied the tag and kept it tied 0-0.
The Wildcats led off the fifth with a single then advanced to second on a balk. After a groundout moved the runner to third, Bethel got on the board with a bunt single. Lindsey Wilson ha d a great opportunity to get on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Sidler led off the inning with a single and then Bergen was hit a by a pitch. The bases became loaded with no outs following a Bethel error. Lindsey Wilson's threat came to end following a strikeout and an inning-ending double play.
Lindsey Wilson worked around a Bethel leadoff triple in the sixth to keep the game 1-0. The Wildcats scored their second run of the game in the seventh. Barham led off the bottom of the ninth with a single before the next three batters were retired ending the game.
The Blue Raiders are back in action at 5 p.m. CT Tuesday at Indiana Southeast in New Albany, Indiana.
