Women’s Soccer Drops Conference Opener at Bethel 2-1

MCKENZIE, Tenn- In a tough Mid- South Conference opener for Lindsey Wilson women's soccer, the team fell 2-1 to Bethel University tonight. With a slow game to start, Bethel ended up pushing through to take home their second win against Lindsey Wilson in the history of their matchups.

Bethel's offensive pressure paid off, with Anna-McCall Johnson scoring first for the Wildcats. Johnson opened the scoring with a well-placed shot, assisted by Ainhoa Chirivella in the 37th minute. Johnson added a second goal five minutes later with Leni Volker recording the assist. 

Facing a challenging game, Lindsey Wilson tried to fight back and found their rhythm late in the match when Silvia Marchesi scored in the 90th minute.

Despite the loss, Lindsey Wilson's goalkeeper, Alida Leles, delivered a standout performance with 10 saves, keeping her team in contention throughout the match. Lindsey Wilson managed 6 shots on goal but struggled to find the back of the net against Bethel's defense and goalkeeper Alicia Perez, who recorded 4 saves.

Bethel dominated the offensive stats with 12 shots on goal, showcasing their ability to create scoring opportunities. Both teams experienced a slow second half, but the early goals from Bethel proved to be the deciding factor.

Lindsey Wilson will look to regroup and find their footing as they continue their schedule at 7 PM CST on Saturday when they travel to Union (Ky.)
