COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Blue Raider men's basketball team came up short against rival Campbellsville 63-60 in the "Battle of Highway 55" Saturday at Biggers Sports Center.
Julian Cunningham led the Blue Raiders with 21 points shooting 50 percent from the field.
Kenyata Carbon and
Connor Robinson were the only Blue Raiders to join Cunnigham in scoring double-digit figures.
The Blue Raiders had nine turnovers in the first half while Campbellsville took advantage of the opportunities to score eight points. A late Lindsey Wilson scoring drought in the opening half led to chances for the Tigers and the visitors ultimately went into halftime with the lead.
The second half brought a lot of excitement as it came down to the wire and the free throw line. Robinson tied the game at 60 with 35 seconds left on a 3-pointer. The Tigers then converted on a pair of free throws with 15 seconds left to take a 62-60 lead. The men left a lot of points off the table from the free throw line as they only made 62.5 percent --15-24 -- from the stripe.
"As a team we have to learn how to close the game out," said Cunningham. "It's a tough loss and another learning experience."
Campbellsville's Jay Milburn led the Tigers with 19 points and Cobe Penny added another 17. The Tigers shot 38 percent from the field and forced the Blue Raiders to turnover the ball 17 times.
Lindsey Wilson will be back at Biggers Sport Center at 3 p.m. CST on Saturday, January 18 to host Cumberland (Tenn.).
