Men’s Basketball Defeats Cumberland for First Conference Win

COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team picked up its first Mid-South Conference win with an 84-75 victory over Cumberland (Tenn.) Saturday at Biggers Sports Center.

Daivel Jackson entered today's game with a vengeance as he finished with a game-high 26 points and 10 rebounds  on 6-of-6 shooting from the field and 14-of-15 from the charity stripe. 

The Blue Raiders showed a balanced offensive attack with three players scoring in double digits. Johrdon Mumford with 14 points, followed by Julian Cunningham with 12 and Connor Robinson with 10. The team also shot efficiently hitting 50 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from beyond the arc.

Lindsey Wilson got out to a fast start scoring eight of the first 10 points. Leading 17-8, the Blue Raiders scored nine of the next 12 points increasing their lead to 26-11 with 11:16 left in the half. Lindsey Wilson led by as many as 20 in the first half and took a 48-35 lead into halftime.

The Blue Raiders pushed their lead to 17 at 56-39 scoring eight of the second half's first 12 points. Cumberland answered with a 10-4 run trimming the Lindsey Wilson lead to 60-59 with 13:26 to play. Lindsey Wilson led 73-60 with 8:12 to play before the Phoenix scored seven of the next eight points trimming the lead to 74-67 with just over four minutes remaining. The Blue Raiders once again pushed their lead to double-digits and capitalized on free throws down the stretch for the 84-75 win.

After getting their first conference win and keeping the momentum, Jackson responded with" sticking together through the highs and lows, making sure we're accountable for ourselves and each other and passing the good energy and staying positive." 

The Blue Raiders will be back in action against Bethel University on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m. CT in McKenzie, Tennessee.
