COLUMBIA, Ky. – The 25
th-ranked Blue Raider volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to No. 10 Cumberlands (Ky.) on Tuesday inside Biggers Sports Center.
Lindsey Wilson was held to 0.086 on the attack compared to the Patriots' 0.398. The visitors also had a 9-3 edge from the service line and 6-3 advantage on blocks.
Ola Wyrzykowska led the home team's offense with 10 kills and two service aces. She chipped in five digs, as well.
Brooke Robinson had five kills and five digs,
Luiza Gonçalves passed out 18 assists, and
Momo Hampton led the Blue Raiders with 11 digs.
Gonçalves scored the first point of the match with her 34
th service ace of the season. Cumberlands answered back to take an 8-3 lead. A three-point run by the Blue Raiders with a Wyrzykowska kill and two Patriot errors trimmed the visitors' lead to 13-11, but another Cumberlands' run late put the first set out of reach.
In the middle frame, a 12-2 stretch by the Patriots broke them away from a 4-4 tie. Kills by
Marija Raonic and Robinson kept Lindsey Wilson alive down the stretch, plus a combo block by
Gracie Freidrich and Gonçalves. Cumberlands' offense, however, proved too heavy with 19 kills in the second set.
The Blue Raiders fell behind 2-0 early in the third. Five Patriot service errors in the set allowed Lindsey Wilson opportunities to make a run but strong attacks from the opposition stalled any momentum from the hosts.
Lindsey Wilson hits the road to Georgetown (Ky.) at 6 p.m. CT on Thursday, October 16.
