Blue Raiders Snap Two-Game Losing Streak With 3-1 Victory Over Firehawks

COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Blue Raider men's soccer team defeated the University of Tennessee Southern Firehawks 3-1, on Ray Wells Field Thursday night.

Boney Meney, Paseka Maile, and Renny Caceido led the Blue Raider offense, all tallying a goal in the second half. Denilson Macon and Meney had an assist apiece to aid in the 3-1 LWU victory. Zahir Garcia tallied the win, allowing one goal, improving to 2-0.

Both teams remained scoreless in the first half with Lindsey Wilson outshooting UT Southern seven to two, with neither team registering a shot on goal. 

The Blue Raiders struck first in the 69th minute with Meney capitalizing on an assist from Macon to tally his first goal of the season, giving LWU the 1-0 edge. Maile was able to find the open box in the 78th minute to extend the lead to 2-0. UT Southern answered back with a goal in the 81st minute to cut the deficit to 2-1. Meney found Caceido on a runner into the box in the 83rd minute, pushing the lead to 3-1.

LWU outshot Tennessee Southern 21 to three on the night, registering six shots on goal, while holding the Firehawks to just one shot on goal for the 3-1 victory. 

Lindsey Wilson will resume Mid-South Conference play on Tuesday as they host No.18-ranked Bethel (Tenn.) at 7 P.M. CT on Senior Night on Ray Wells Field at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
