ROME, Ga. – The Lindsey Wilson men's and women's tennis teams closed out competition at the ITA Cup Sunday at the Rome Tennis Center.
Lev Sholosh opened his tournament with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Southeastern's (Fla.) Piero Fernandez. Sholosh then defeated Georgia Gwinnett's Luis Francisco Sampedro 7-5, 7-5 in the quarterfinals. He was then defeated by Santiago Villarruel of Georgia Gwinnett 6-3, 7-5.
Sholosh and Larrera teamed up in doubles and defeated Tennessee Wesleyan's David Leon and Mario Monclus Martin 6-3, 6-2. The duo then advanced to the semifinals with a 7-6 (6-3), 3-6, 10-5 victory over Fernandez and Javier Gallego. Sholosh and Larrera were defeated by Francisco Sampedro and Villarruel 6-4, 6-3.
On the women's side,
Javiera Verdugo lost her first match to Tennessee Wesleyan's Ivet Prat 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 4-6. Verdugo then defeated Hope International's (Calif.) Ayala Stephens 6-2, 6-3 and Holy Cross' (Ind.) Sofia Munoz 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
In doubles,
Martina Cortal and
Mayra Gisone defeated Bethel's (Ind.) Szilvia Ferenczy and Paola Lameda Morin 6-1, 6-2. The duo was then defeated by Keiser's (Fla.) Violet Apisah and Patricia Apisah 6-3, 6-2. Cortal and Gisone then defeated Loyola's Adele Fereres and Avery Frierson 6-3, 6-2.
Mariangeles Mateu and
Heyka Rodriguez fell to Prat and Honoka Tsuji 2-6, 6-7 (4-7) in the first round. Mateu and Rodriguez then defeated Stanton's (Calif.) Romy Pols and Paula Rodriguez 6-4, 6-4. The duo then fell to William Carey's (Miss.) Victoria Vieten and Isabella Lechuaga 6-7 (2-7), 2-6.
