CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The (RV) Lindsey Wilson volleyball team dropped the season's first "Battle of Highway 55" on Thursday evening at Gosser Gymnasium.
Surrounded by rowdy Tigers' fans, the Blue Raiders were held to 0.044 on the attack but did match the hosts in service aces – 6-6 – and total blocks – 5-5.
Ola Wyrzykowska paced the offense with nine kills, plus seven digs.
Luiza Gonçalves had 20 assists and seven digs, while
Momo Hampton finished with four digs, three aces, and two assists.
Gracie Friedrich led Lindsey Wilson with three blocks, including one with
Brooke Robinson for the first point of the match. Campbellsville got its first tally on a Blue Raider hitting error and used a 4-1 run to go ahead 4-2. A seven-point spurt by the Tigers later in the set increased their lead to 20-10, and they held that margin to take the first 25-15.
A 10-0 run by Campbellsville in the second set provided the home team with separation, up 13-5. Kills by Robinson, Gonçalves, and
Marija Raonic could not soften the deficit enough for the Blue Raiders as the Tigers grabbed the middle frame 25-16.
In the third, a Wyrzykowska kill and consecutive service aces by
Rylee Springer sent Lindsey Wilson out to a 4-0 start. Campbellsville was quick to counter, however, and created an 18-13 lead. A Tiger attack error followed by an ace from Hampton set up back-to-back kills for Robinson to trim the score down to 18-17. After a Tigers' timeout, Campbellsville scored four of the next five points and held on to win set three 25-21.
Lindsey Wilson returns home at 7 p.m. CT on Wednesday, October 29 to begin a four-match homestand against Brescia (Ky.).
