McKENZIE, Tenn. – The 25
th-ranked Blue Raider volleyball team swept past Bethel (Tenn.) on Friday evening inside Crisp Arena.
Lindsey Wilson nearly doubled the Wildcats in offensive production, led by
Ola Wyrzykowska's double-double of 13 kills and 15 digs.
Ana Clara Beltran Sacca hit 0.316 with seven kills, and
Luiza Gonçalves had 32 assists, six digs, and two kills.
Momo Hampton and
Layla HuYoung led the Blue Raiders with 14 and 10 digs, respectively.
The Wildcats led 14-10 in the first set before an attack error, followed by a kill apiece from
Petra Fernandez Garcia, Gonçalves, and Sacca tied the score. Wyrzykowska joined the fray with two blocks and a kill to push Lindsey Wilson out in front 18-16. Things stayed tight to the end of the frame and the score drew even at 23-23. Consecutive kills by
Marija Raonic and Fernandez Garcia finished it off in Lindsey Wilson's favor.
The visitors held a slim 10-9 edge in the second set after kills from Gonçalves and Wyrzykowska. A four-point run with two
Hannah Garcia service aces gained some separation at 14-9. Another 4-0 stretch later on, including an ace and kill from Wyrzykowska, and Gonçalves passing out assists to Raonic and
Brooke Robinson cushioned the lead to 20-14. Two of the Blue Raiders' last five points of the set came off the hand of Sacca, and a Wildcats' hitting error ended the set 25-18.
Bethel snuck out to a 6-5 lead early in the third, but Lindsey Wilson answered with a kill from Sacca and a Robinson ace for an 8-6 advantage. The 'Cats pushed back to go ahead 10-9, only for a service error to tie the score and trigger a 4-0 spurt for the Blue Raiders. From there, Lindsey Wilson never surrendered its lead as the Blue Raiders closed on a 4-1 run and a Robinson kill to seal the sweep.
Lindsey Wilson is back to work at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday, October 4 at Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.). The Lions dropped a five-set decision to Campbellsville (Ky.) on Friday night.
