WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.- The Lindsey Wilson Women's Soccer team upset No. 4 Cumberlands (Ky.) in a Mid-South Conference matchup Wednesday at the Cumberlands Soccer Complex.
The (RV) Blue Raiders (4-4-2, 3-0-1 MSC) remain undefeated in conference play after earning their first top-25 win of the season over Cumberlands. Lindsey Wilson recorded 15 shots, including five on goal, while the Patriots (8-2-3, 1-2 MSC) tallied eight shots with five on target.
Within the first minute, Lindsey Wilson came out firing as Efua Asabel tested the Patriots' goalkeeper to set the tone. Just 44 seconds later, Ashiat Nalggwa followed with another attempt, but both shots came up short. The Patriots responded quickly to the Blue Raiders' aggressive start, challenging Demi Serman with four shots in five minutes, though none found the back of the net. By halftime, both teams had recorded six shots, with the Blue Raiders placing three on goal compared to the Patriots' four.
As the second half began, Naluggwa fired a shot that sailed high, keeping the game scoreless. The Blue Raiders stayed committed to their game plan, registering nine shots in the second half before finally breaking through. Reigning MSC Offensive Player of the Week, Asabel, found the back of the net in the 85th minute to give Lindsey Wilson the lead and record her fifth goal of the season.
The Patriots had no answer for the Blue Raiders stout defense, as Lindsey Wilson secured its first top-25 victory of the season and remained unbeaten in conference play.
Lindsey Wilson will be back in action Sunday October 12 at 12 p.m. CT to take on No.20 Georgia Gwinnett College on Ray Wells Field at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
