Adrian Ayala has been selected as the Mid-South Conference Men's Wrestler of the Week, conference officials announced Monday.
Ayala, of Naples, Florida, earns his first career weekly honors after going 5-0 at the Millikin Open and capturing the title at 141 pounds. He becomes the first Blue Raider to earn Wrestler of the Week honors since
Clarence Lee-Green IV on January 15, 2024.
He began his tournament with a pin of Jack Dombek of Triton in just 57 seconds. Ayala advanced to the quarterfinals with an 11-1 major decision over Wabash's Xavier Roberts. In the quarterfinals, he earned a 15-3 major decision over Colin Claffey of Millikin. After a medical forfeit in the semifinals, Ayala captured the title with a 4-3 decision over Gavin Whitehead (No. 1 in NJCAA at 141 pounds) of Indian Hills.
In two events this season, Ayala has won both tournaments and is off to a 9-0 start.
Ayala and the Blue Raiders are back in action on Saturday at the Grand View Open in Des Moines, Iowa.
