Men’s Wrestling Competes at Lucha Open

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. – The Lindsey Wilson men's wrestling team recorded four top-eight finishes at the Lucha Open on Saturday at Legacy Arena.

Zackery Chatman finished runner-up in the Silver Division 285-pound bracket. Chapman opened his tournament with three straight pins. He pinned Brewton-Parker's (Ga.) Bryce Anderson in the second round, and Blake Palmer of Huntingdon (Ind.) in round three. Chatman advanced to the semifinals with a pin of Central Florida's Rissell Fickett in just 52 seconds. He advanced to the finals with an SV-1 6-3 over Bryce Dadey of The Citadel. Chatman was defeated 18-2 in the finals by  Nicholas Rogers of Mt. Olive.

Cory Cannan (No. 13 at 184 pounds) posted a fifth-place finish in the Gold Division 184 bracket. Cannan defeated Jayden Maelcki 11-7 in his first match before falling to Life's (Ga.) Kendall Norfleet (No. 2 in NAIA at 184 pounds) 8-5. He then won his next three matches to place fifth. Cannan earned a 14-1 major decision in his first consolation match and 15-7 over St. Thomas' (Fla.) Ghee Rachal. He earned fifth after a forfeit.

Jostyn Zayas finished fifth in the Silver Division 197-pound bracket. After losing his first match, Zayas rattled off five consecutive wins in the consolation bracket to finish fifth. He picked up his first win with a 22-6 tech fall over Pikeville's (Ky.) Payton Lyons. Zayas earned his second 22-6 tech fall over Demond Hutchins. He defeated teammate Bailey Jones 12-1 to advance to the consolation semifinals. Zayas then earned a 7-3 decision to advance to the fifth-place match. He earned fifth with a 9-5 decision over Jason Brown of Andrew.

Arlo Laxton finished eighth in the Gold Division 133-pound bracket. Laxton dropped a 7-5 decision in his first match to Georgetown's (Ky.) Leland Reeves. He pinned Eaiden Neal of Reinhardt (Ga.) in his first consolation match. Laxton advanced to the consolation semifinals with a 6-5 decision over Dylan Clark (No. 16 in NAIA at 133 pounds). He was defeated by Jasper Croom 18-2 and Geno Cardenas (No. 5 in NAIA at 125 pounds) 8-0 in the seventh-place match.

The Blue Raiders are back in action for the Mustang Invitational on Saturday, December 6 in Conway, Arkansas.
