Blue Raiders Fall 3-2 to No. 10 Cumberlands in MSC Semifinals

COLUMBIA, Ky. The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team came up short, falling 3-2 to No. 10 Cumberlands (Ky.) in the Mid-South Conference semifinals.

The Blue Raiders (9-5-2) recorded 11 total shots, including four on goal, while the Patriots (13-3-3) finished with 16 shots, nine of which were on target.

In the first half, the Blue Raiders gave up their first goal in seven games as Cumberlands (Ky.) took a 1-0 lead with a goal from Sara Soto in the eighth minute, her third of the season. The Patriots took 12 shots in the first half compared to six from the Blue Raiders. Even though Cumberlands had more chances, the Blue Raider defense held strong, keeping the score within one going into halftime.

The second half brought fireworks as Cumberlands capitalized on another Lindsey Wilson miscue, with Abigail Little scoring in the 51st minute to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead. The Blue Raiders continued to battle, and Ashiat Naluggwa found the net in the 58th minute for her ninth goal of the season, sending a shot just past the fingertips of the Patriots' goalkeeper. Little answered quickly with her second goal of the match to extend Cumberlands' lead to 3-1.

In the 62nd minute, Naluggwa delivered a free kick to Lara Rocha, whose header found Asabel Efua for her 13th goal of the year, trimming the Patriots' lead to one. The Blue Raiders couldn't overcome the deficit as they lost 3-2.

Lindsey Wilson will await the NAIA selection committee's decision to see if they earn an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament. The selection show will be held November 14 6 p.m. CT.
