COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team fell 80-72 to Shawnee State (Ohio) on Saturday afternoon inside Biggers Sports Center.
The Blue Raiders (8-3) were led by
Kenyata Carbon, who scored a game-high 27 points.
Mihail Gavazov added 16 points and six rebounds, while
Latrell Kyles contributed nine points and nine boards.
Lindsey Wilson got off to a strong start, opening the game on a 12-2 run fueled by early threes from Gavazov and layups from Carbon. Shawnee State responded with a 9-3 run to stay close, but the Blue Raiders regained momentum with a 7-0 run midway through the first half, pushing their lead to 28-12. The Bears then went on a 9-4 run, trimming the deficit to 39-26, but Lindsey Wilson held a slim 41-39 lead at halftime after a late layup from
Victory Naboya.
The second half saw multiple momentum swings. Lindsey Wilson scored first on a three-point play from
Olson Nicholson and a layup from Carbon to take a 46-41 lead. Shawnee State countered with a 13-4 run, taking control and forcing the Blue Raiders to play from behind. Lindsey Wilson responded with a 6-2 run, highlighted by Carbon and Gavazov scoring in transition, but the Bears pulled away late with a 13-6 run to claim a 77-69 advantage with seconds remaining. A late three from Carbon and a layup from Naboya cut the final margin, but Shawnee State held on for the 80-72 win.
Carbon now sits just one point shy of 1,000 career points, a milestone he is expected to reach in the upcoming games.
The Blue Raiders will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 16, traveling to Indiana University Southeast for a 5 p.m. CT tip inside the IU Southeast Activities Building in New Albany, Indiana.
