CONWAY, Ark. – The Lindsey Wilson men's wrestling team finished fifth at the CBC Mustang Invitational on Saturday afternoon. 

The Blue Raiders tallied 57 points to finish in fifth. Life (Ga.) finished first with 157 points while Northeast Oklahoma recorded 114.5 points to finish in second. 

Nathan Payton, competing in the 149-pound division, finished in 1st place by going undefeated in three matches after receiving a bye in the first round. In the quarter finals, Payton pinned Ozak's Ethan Norton late in the first period. He needed just 43 seconds to pin Clay Crane of Williams Baptist in the semifinals. In the championship bout, Payton went up against Caiden Saavedra, also from Williams Baptist. Payton won by fall at 2:04 into the first period.  

Melvin Patterson, competing in the 165 lb. division, finished as runner-up and took home 12.0 team points for the Blue Raiders. Patterson pinned David Dell of Oklahoma Wesleyan in the second period. He punched his ticket to the finals with a 10-3 decision over Northeast Oklahoma's Tony Stewart. Patterson forfeited in the championship match to Life's Alexander Couto. 

Zackery Chatman, competing in the 285 lb. weight class, finished as runner-up and scored the Blue Raiders 11.5 team points. Chatman began his tournament with a 20-2 tech fall over Cumberland's Evan Dixon. He then earned a 10-4 decision over Elijah Nichols of Central Baptist in the semifinals. In the finals, Chatman was pinned in the second period by Jude Beers of Northeast Oklahoma. 


The Lindsey Wilson Blue Raider men's wrestling team is next in action on Monday, December 15th, at 7:00 pm CT, when LWU hosts Rochester Christian (Mich.) and Midway (Ky.)  at Biggers Sports Center.
