Blue Raiders Split On Day One Of Two-Day Series Against Toppers

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss.- The Lindsey Wilson baseball team split with Blue Mountain Christian University (Miss.) on the first day of the two day series.

The Blue Raiders (1-4) won the first game of the series 3-2 and fell 14-2 in game two. 

In game one Andres Duran led Lindsey Wilson at the plate going two-for-three, tallying a double that scored a run in the first inning giving him an RBI. Drake Young, and Amir Pineiro both contributed an RBI that gave the Blue Raiders the 3-2 edge. Glen Simes (1-1) picks up the win after pitching six innings, only allowing two runs on nine hits with five strikeouts. Reed Marcum picks up a save on the night, coming in as a reliever and pitching one inning allowing for zero runs on zero hits and a strikeout. 

Chance Stayton and Diego Andino both led the Blue Raider offense with Stayton connecting on a solo homerun in the top of the second inning, and Andino doubling down the right field line in the top of the fifth for an RBI. Mason Malone (0-2) picks up the loss, pitching one inning and allowing six runs on five hits, two walks, and two strikeouts. Riley Monheimer pitched an inning, allowing four runs on four hits. Ethan Fain came in to face seven batters, gave up four runs on no hits, and four walks. Trace Stringer came in to pitch the final three innings, giving up zero runs on three hits, three strikeouts, and one walk.

Duran got LWC on the board in the top of the first after hitting a RBI-double down the right field line, sending Matthew Schultz across the plate. BMCU answered in the bottom of the first, tying the game 1-1.

 Blue Mountain held Lindsey Wilson scoreless going into the bottom of the third where they took a 2-1 lead on a RBI from Will Crawford. The Blue Raiders answered back in the top of the fourth when Jaiden Keith singled to left field and advanced to second on a wild pitch, followed by Pineiro grounding out to second but knocking in Keith for an RBI and tying the game 2-2. 

LWC would score the final run of the game in the top of the fifth when Caden Davis came in to pinch run for Andino after he singled to right field and advanced to third on a SAC bunt from Stayton. Drake Young stepped up to the plate hitting a SAC-fly to center field, scoring Davis. Lindsey Wilson would go on to hold Blue Mountain scoreless the last three innings with Simes striking out three and Marcum striking out one.

Game 2: Blue Mountain Christian University 14,  Lindsey Wilson 2

Stayton got Lindsey Wilson on the board in the top of the second with a solo shot over the left field wall to cut the Topper lead to 3-1. Blue Mountain answered back in the bottom of the second putting up six runs on four doubles, a single, and a ground out RBI (9-1), followed by LWC going scoreless in the top of the third and BMCU adding five more runs in the bottom of the inning on two hit-by-pitches, two walks, and a catcher interference (14-1). 

The final Blue Raider run came when Andino doubled down the right field line in the top of the fifth, scoring Braxton Smith, making the score 14-2. 

Blue Raider baseball will be back in action against the Toppers on Saturday at 1 p.m. CST for game three of the series, which will be immediately followed by game four.
