Blue Raiders Drop Both Games To Blue Mountain On Day Two Of Series

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss.- The Lindsey Wilson baseball team (1-6), fell 9-6 in game one, and came up just short in a 6-4 loss in seven innings in game two against the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian University (Miss.)

Matthew Schultz, Chance Stayton, and Andres Duran went two-for-four in game one knocking in five of the six runs scored for the Blue Raiders. Schultz had a homerun, Stayton had a double and two RBIs, with Duran picking up a double and RBI. Jack Ballou (0-1) picked up the loss in one inning, giving up five runs on three hits, four walks, and two strikeouts. Gannon Herring and Reed Marcum came in as relief pitching a combined total of five innings with Herring giving up three runs on six hits, two strikeouts, and a walk With Marcum giving up one run on one hit, three walks, and one strikeout. 

Bryce Sidler went two-for-four at the plate during game two picking up a double, while Drake Young went one-for-two and knocked in two RBIs. Jacob Jackson (0-1) picked up the loss giving up one run on one hit, a walk and a strikeout in his one inning outing. Kyle Lambert came in and pitched five innings of relief, giving up five runs on eight hits, three walks, along with three strikeouts. 

Game One: Blue Mountain 9, Lindsey Wilson 6 
Schultz led off the top of the first for the Blue Raiders with a solo homerun over the left field wall to give LWC the early 1-0 advantage. The Toppers answered back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI scored due to a sacrifice fly to center tying the game 1-1.

 Duran connected on a pitch over the plate in the top of the second, doubling to left center. After Amir Pineiro hit a pop-fly in the infield, Manie Wimberly stepped up to the plate and doubled to right-center, scoring Duran and giving Lindsey Wilson a 2-1 lead. BMCU took the lead in the bottom of the third after a two-run shot was delivered, giving the Toppers a 3-2 advantage. 

After a scoreless fourth inning, Lindsey Wilson put three runs on the board in the top of the fifth, with Andino hitting a linedrive to center field, scoring Young after he reached on a walk to tie the game at 3-3. Schultz scored on a double to right-center from Stayton after reaching first on a successful bunt while Duran singled through the right side giving the Blue Raiders a 5-3 advantage. 

Blue Mountain tallied four runs in the bottom of the fifth  on sac-fly RBI, and a three run shot over the left-center wall, extending the BMCU lead 7-5, and added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth after an RBI-single, and a walk with the bases loaded, putting the Toppers up 9-5. 

After Sidler was hit by a pitch in the top of the seventh, Santiago Gonzalez singled down the right field line, moving Sidler to third. Stayton singled to right-center, scoring Sidler and making the score 9-6. 

Game Two: Blue Mountain 6, Lindsey Wilson 4
Blue Mountain struck first in game four in the bottom of the first, putting up three runs on the board off a sac-fly to second, and a two-RBI single up the middle, scoring two. Duran led off the top of the second, reaching on a double to left field. Duran reached third on an error by the Topper's shortstop, and scored on a Wimberly groundout cutting the lead to 3-1. 

After holding BMCU scoreless in the second and third inning, the Blue Raiders tied the game 3-3 in the top of the fourth. Andino singled to right and Stayton singled to left, putting two base runners on as Young singled up the middle, which scored Stayton and Andino. BMCU took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth after a solo homerun over the center field wall. 

The Blue Raiders tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the sixth as Caden Davis came in to Pinch run for Young after he reached on a walk, and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly to center field from Jaiden Keith . 

Blue Mountain Christian  scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run homerun, giving them the 6-4 victory in game four. 


Blue Raider baseball will be back in action at 4 p.m. CST on Tuesday in Dayton, Tenn. to take on the Lions of Bryan College on the diamond of Senter Field.
