Blue Raiders Drop Day One Double-Header In Two-Day Home Opener Series

COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Blue Raider baseball team dropped both games on day one of a two-day series against Indiana Tech 10-5 and 5-4 Saturday afternoon in Egnew Park. 

Chance Stayton drove in three RBIs on two hits, Matthew Schultz knocked in two runs on two hits, and Andres Duran sent one over the wall to score a Blue Raider run. 

Glenn Simes picked up a loss in game one, pitching 5.0 innings and giving up seven earned-runs on nine hits and eight strikeouts. Jonathan Phipps picked up the game two loss, pitching 6.0 innings and giving up four earned runs on eight hits, four strikeouts, and three walks. 

Game One: Indiana Tech 10, Lindsey Wilson 5

Lindsey Wilson struck first in the bottom of the third inning after both teams went scoreless through the first two. 

Amir Pineiro was hit by a pitch, and boarded first as Caden Davis entered the game to pinch-run for Pineiro. Trey Price reached on an error advancing Davis to second. Schultz singled, scoring Davis and moving Price to third as Stayton stepped to the plate. Stayton singled to right field and reached second on an error, scoring Price and Schultz, putting the Blue Raiders ahead 3-0. Stayton advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single down the right field line by Bryce Sidler giving LWC the 4-0 advantage headed into the top of the fourth. 

The Warriors tallied their first runs in the top of the fourth frame off a three-run home run, stolen base, and error, holding a 5-4 lead until they tacked on three more in the top of the fifth extending the lead to 8-4. 

In the bottom half of the fifth, Schultz tripled to left field and scored as Duran grounded out to second base, cutting the Warrior lead to 8-5. 

Indiana Tech would tack on two more runs in the top of the sixth and hold Lindsey Wilson scoreless through the final two innings taking a 10-5 victory in game one. 

Game Two: Indiana Tech 5, Lindsey Wilson 4

Indiana Tech took an early 2-0 lead headed into the bottom of the third. Davis tripled to third to start off the inning before two Blue Raiders struck out. Drake Young was walked and in an attempt to steal second was picked off, as Davis scored, 2-1. 

The Warriors tacked on another run in the top of the fourth, but Duran answered back with a solo shot down the right field line, as the Blue Raiders trailed 3-2. 
Both teams acquired two more runs in the fifth inning, with the Blue Raiders coming from a two-RBI triple from Stayton to keep it a one run game at 5-4. 

Lindsey Wilson and Indiana Tech held each other scoreless in the sixth inning. The game was called in six innings as one of the field umpires was injured during the game from a foul ball and was unable to continue. Indiana Tech won game two with a 5-4 decision.

Blue Raider baseball will be back in action tomorrow for another double-header against Indiana Institute of Technology with the first pitch at 1 pm CST, from the mound of Egnew Park.
