Baseball Falls to Tennessee Southern

COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Lindsey Wilson baseball team fell to the Firehawks of Tennessee Southern 10-7 in Egnew Park Tuesday afternoon. 

Bryce Sidler led the Blue Raiders at the plate going two-for-four on the day, picking up an RBI. Andres Duran, Drake Young, and Jackson Steele also picked up an RBI on the day. 

Spencer Garner picks up the loss on the mound pitching 2.0 innings, and giving up six runs with four earned runs on six hits, facing 15 batters and throwing 27 pitches. 

Lindsey Wilson trailed 7-0 until Duran put the Blue Raiders on the board in the bottom of the third frame, singling through right field and scoring Braxton Smith, and cutting the Firehawks lead 7-1. After Chance Stayton was walked, Young reached on a hard ground ball and advanced to second on an error by shortstop, scoring Duran from third for a 7-2 deficit. 

After the Firehawks put up two runs in the top of the sixth extending their lead to 9-2. Tucker Hagan stepped in as a pinch hitter, reaching first on a fielder's choice as Matthew Schultz was picked off at second, and Duran advanced to third. With Tray Price at the plate, Hagan stole second forcing a throw down from the catcher that reached the outfield, allowing Young to score from third, cutting the lead to 9-3. 

Lindsey Wilson held UT Southern scoreless in the seventh frame and cut the lead to 9-4 as Jackson Steele hit an RBI-Single to left field, scoring Duran from third. 

In the top of the eighth, Brayden Buckner extended the Firehawks lead to 10-6 with a solo shot over the left field wall. The Blue Raiders answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame as Sidler connected on an RBI-single to center field with the bases loaded to score Hagan from third. Young stepped up to the plate with runners on every bag, and fell behind in the count early before battling back and drawing a walk, scoring Price making the deficit 10-6. 

Pitching from Kyle Lambert in the top of the ninth held the Firehawks scoreless. In the bottom of the ninth frame with Hagan on second and Schultz on third, Schulz was able to score on a wild pitch, cutting the lead to 10-7. 

Blue Raider baseball will be back in action at Egnew Park on Thursday at 4 pm CT as well as  Friday at 1 pm CT and 4 pm CST for a two-day, three-game series against the (RV) Phoenix of Cumberland University (Tenn.).
