COLUMBIA, Ky. – Amir Pineiro's walk-off sacrifice fly gave the Lindsey Wilson baseball team a 10-9 victory over (RV) Cumberland to open Mid-South Conference play on Thursday at Egnew Park.
Five Blue Raiders (4-17, 1-0 MSC) tallied multiple hits in the win.
Andres Duran powered the offense with four RBIs and a home run while Tucker Hagen drove in three.
Kyle Lambert earned the win pitching 2-2/3 innings allowing one run on three hits with two strikeouts.
Glenn Simes got the start going 2-2/3 innings giving up seven runs with only three earned on seven hits and two walks.
Jack Ballou came in to relieve Simes allowing one run on two hits in 3-2/3 innings.
Lindsey Wilson trailed 9-7 entering the ninth down to its final three outs of the game. Duran drew a leadoff walk and then
Braxton Smith came into run for Duran at first. Following a strikeout,
Drake Young reached on a single through the right side advancing Smith to second. Trey Price was then walked to load the bases and force a Phoenix (19-6-1, 0-1 MSC) pitching change. Hagan then tied the game with a two-run double that bounced off the third base bag into left field.
Diego Andino was walked to load the bases for the force at any base situation. Pineiro stepped to plate and drove a fly ball into right field that was caught by Hunter Moser which scored Price to give Lindsey Wilson the 10-9 victory.
The Blue Raiders trailed 7-0 after Cumberland scored five runs in the first and added a pair in the third. Lindsey Wilson rallied in the sixth scoring seven runs to tie the game 7-7. Price got the Blue Raiders on the board with an RBI double. Hagan made it 7-2 with an RBI single and
Bryce Sidler was walked with the bases loaded to trim the deficit to 7-3. Duran then hit a grand slam over the left-center field fence tying the game. The Phoenix re-took the lead in the seventh and scored one in the eighth to make it 9-7.
Lindsey Wilson and Cumberland close out the three-game series on Friday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. CT at Egnew Park.
