031325 Baseball Cumberland Preview

Baseball Hosts (RV) Cumberland (Tenn.) For Opening Conference Series

COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Lindsey Wilson baseball team opens Mid-South Conference play against Cumberland University (Tenn.) on Thursday and Friday for a three-game series. Game one will happen on Thursday at 4 pm CT in Egnew Park, followed by a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 1 pm CT. 

Lindsey Wilson (3-17) is coming off a 10-7 loss against the University of Tennessee Southern on Tuesday afternoon. The Blue Raiders look to end their three-game losing streak with a potential win against the Phoenix. Bryce Sidler leads at the plate with an average of .388, picking up 26 hits in 67 at-bats. Sidler has accumulated eight RBIs and six doubles on the season. Andres Duran leads the team in RBIs with 16, as well as home runs tallying four so far this season. Glenn Simes has two of the three wins on the mound for the Blue Raiders this season, pitching a total of 27-1/3 innings, and facing 118 batters. Simes has given up 22 runs on 38 hits, while picking up 24 strikeouts and only allowing 10 walks. 

Cumberland University (19-5-1) most recently dropped a 16-13 decision to No. 2 Tennessee Wesleyan on Tuesday evening. The Phoenix are led at the plate by Rafael Garcia, who is currently batting .424 on 28 hits in 66 appearances. Garcia has also tallied 18 RBIs and 23 runs so far this season. Preston Welchel has a team high 32 RBIs on 29 hits in 81 at-bats, alongside four home runs. Quinlan Wiley has pitched a team-high 26.0 innings and maintains a 4-0 record. Wiley has given up just three runs on 15 hits while tacking on 41 strikeouts and three walks. 

Cumberland leads the all-time series between the two teams 48-23. Lindsey Wilson has won four of the last 10 match-ups. The Blue Raiders and Phoenix last met on May 1, 2024, in Bowling Green, Kentucky in the first round of the Mid-South Conference on the diamond of Bowling Green Ballpark, where Lindsey Wilson defeated Cumberland University 6-5. 

The first pitch will be thrown by the Blue Raiders on Thursday afternoon at 4 pm CST, from the mound of Egnew Park. Lindsey Wilson will once again step on the diamond of Egnew Park on Friday to finish the series with the Phoenix at 1 pm and 4 pm CST.
