Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Cumberland to Close Out Series

COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Lindsey Wilson baseball team dropped both games on day-two, falling 12-3 and 5-1, to the (RV) Phoenix of Cumberland (Tenn.) in Egnew Park Friday afternoon. 

Matthew Schultz, Bryce Sidler, and Chance Stayton led the Blue Raiders at the plate all contributing two hits a-piece on the day. Tucker Hagan led the team in RBIs with two in game one. 

Gannon Herring led the team on the mound with four strikeouts in game two, while Mason Malone picked up two in game one. 

Game One: Cumberland 12, Lindsey Wilson 3
The Blue Raiders trailed 8-0 early until the bottom of the fourth frame when Matthew Schultz was walked with the bases loaded scoring the first Lindsey Wilson run of the game, 8-1. 

Cumberland University answered back in the top of the fifth with two runs. Maddox Terrance got on base after coming in to pinch hit for Drake Young, connecting on an RBI-single to left center. With Terrance on first, Santiago Gonzalez entered to pinch hit for Tray Price, singling through the right side and advancing Terrance to third. Hagan hit a SAC-fly to center field, scoring Terrance for third, cutting the lead to 10-2.

The Phoenix tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the seventh frame, Stayton singled to left center, followed by a Young walk, and a Price single, bringing Hagan back to the plate with one out and the bases loaded. Hagan connected on another SAC-fly to center field, scoring Stayton from third for a 12-3 deficit. Diego Andino popped out for the last out of the game, as the Blue Raiders fell 12-3. 

Game Two: Cumberland 5, Lindsey Wilson 1
Cumberland University put the first run of the game on the board in the top of the third frame before tacking on three more in the fifth to take an early 4-0 lead. 

Lindsey was held without a hit until a Stayton single in the bottom of the seventh. In the ninth inning, the Phoenix tallied another run that was answered by the Blue Raiders. After a ground out from Diego Andino and a strikeout from Amir Pineiro, Schultz singled to center and stole second, followed by advancing to third on a wild pitch. With Schultz on third, Sidler singled through the left side scoring Schultz, before Stayton struck out. Lindsey Wilson dropped the second game of the day 5-1. 

Blue Raider baseball will be back in action on Tuesday, March 18 in Egnew Park at 2 pm CT to face the Eagles of Midway University (Ky.).
