Blue Raiders Drops Home Matchup to Midway

COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Blue Raider baseball team fell 7-5 to Midway University (Ky.) in Egnew Park on Tuesday afternoon

Amir Pineiro led the Blue Raiders at the plate with two RBIs on the day, going 1-for-4 in the box. Chance Stayton went 2-for-3 with one run and one walk on the day. 

Glenn Simes picks up the loss pitching 4.2 innings and facing 24 batters. Simes gave up five runs on eight hits, giving up five earned runs.

Lindsey Wilson trailed Midway 1-0 heading into the bottom of the second frame. With runners on first and second, Amir Pineiro hit a two RBI-single to left field, scoring Drake Young and Tray Price to take a 2-1 lead. 

Midway answered back in the top of the third with four runs, including a three-run home run to put the Eagles back on top 5-2 headed into the bottom of the frame. Chance Stayton led off in the third with a double down the left-field line. Andres Duran stepped on first after singling to right field and advancing Stayton to third. Price stepped up and connected on a hard ground ball to short, scoring Stayton for a 5-3 deficit. 

After holding the Eagles scoreless through the fourth and fifth innings, Lindsey Wilson had Sidler on second and Stayton on third with two outs. Drake Young stepped up to the plate and was caught looking on strike three, stranding two runners in scoring position for the Blue Raiders. 

Jayden Keith started off the bottom of the sixth with a double to left center. Pineiro grounded out to short, advancing Keith to third, and bringing Schultz to the plate. Schultz connected on a hard ground ball, hitting the edge of the pitcher's glove, allowing Stayton to score from third, bringing the Blue Raiders within one run at 5-4. 

The Eagles extended their lead to 7-4 in the top of the seventh as the Blue Raiders trailed. Matthew Schultz singled to second, putting a runner on the bases with two outs. With Diego Andino up to bat,  Schultz stole second and third base, scoring as Andino doubled to right field, cutting the deficit to 7-5. Stayton and Sidler stepped to the plate, getting hit by the pitcher back-to-back, loading the bases. The Blue Raiders would leave the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, trailing 7-5. 


Blue Raider baseball will be back in action a week from today on at 5 pm CST on March 25, in Oakland City, Indiana to take on the Mighty Oaks of Oakland City University (Ind.)
