Page Advances to Second Day of NAIA Women’s Wrestling Championship; Blue Raiders 17th

WICHITA, Kan. – The Lindsey Wilson women's wrestling team sits in 17th while India Page went 3-1 on the first day of the NAIA Women's Wrestling National Championship Friday at Park City Arena.

Page advancing to the second day means she will become the first All-American in program history. The Blue Raiders tallied 22 total points on day one to be 17th.

Page earned the No. 2 seed in the 180-pound bracket and opened her tournament with a 7-3 decision over Westcliff's (Calif.) Kyree Rubio. She then advanced to the quarterfinals with a pin of Marissa Patterson from Hastings (Neb.) in just 1:05. Page was pinned by Baker's (Kan.) Jannell Avila in the quarterfinals to fall to the consolation bracket. She pinned Ottawa's Sierra Arrington in her first consolation match to advance. Page will wrestle sixth-seeded Reka Busa from Life (Ga.) on Saturday. Page will advance in the bracket with a win or fall to the seventh-place match with a loss to Busa.

Reagan Thomas went 2-2 in the 110-pound bracket. Thomas began her tournament with a victory over Jenna Gerhardt from Dickinson State (S.D.). She suffered her first loss in the second round to No. 3 seed Paige Morales from Providence (Mont.). Thomas picked up a 12-3 decision in her first consolation match against Nia Avelino from Eastern Oregon. Her championship came to an end with a 15-4 loss to No. 8 seed Alexsys Jacquez from Saint Mary (Kan.).

Callie Payton was defeated by top-seeded Christianah Ogunsanya from William Penn (Iowa) in the second round at 117 pounds. Payton won her first consolation match with a 10-0 tech fall over Central Methodist's (Mo.) Victoria Nunez. She was then pinned by No. 6 seed Mayangelie Colon from Grand View (Iowa).

Kamilah Brooks was the No. 8 seed in the 124-pound bracket. Brooks earned a 10-0 tech fall over Kaylee Annis of Southern Oregon in the first round. She advanced to the quarterfinals with a 9-6 decision over Baker's Kylie Robledo. Brooks fell to the consolation bracket with a 10-0 loss to top-seeded Cristelle Rodriguez from Doane (Neb.). She then lost to Life's Ariana Martinez.

Kori Campbell earned the seventh seed in the 138-pound bracket. Campbell opened her tournament with a second-period pin of Friends' (Kan.) Gianna Moreno in the second round. She dropped a 10-4 decision to second-seeded Christianah Ogunsanya from Providence in the quarterfinals. Campbell dropped a 6-4 decision to Oklahoma City's Natalia Posada in the consolation round.

Josselinne Campos was seeded seventh at 145 pounds and earned a 5-4 decision over Providence's Esther Han in round one. Campos punched her ticket to the quarterfinals with a victory over Emma Stice from Hastings. She fell in the quarterfinals 5-0 to Liv Webber from Eastern Oregon. Campos' tournament came to an end with a 4-2 loss to Cumberlands' (Ky.) Alivia Ming.

Hayeni Costa earned the No. 8 seed at 207 pounds and defeated Skylar Brun from Waldorf (Iowa) to advance to the quarterfinals. Costa was pinned by top-seeded Olivia Brown of Grand View in the quarterfinals. She lost to Mariyah Brumley from William Woods (Mo.) in her first consolation match.

Rodiat Adeduntan, Sydney Bridenstine and Lexie Ritchie all went 0-2 in their respective weight classes.

The second day of the NAIA National Championship gets underway on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. CT at Park City Arena.
